Why videography?
We’ll be honest. This question is not so much “frequently asked” as it is frequently answered. Chances are you’ve seen other videography websites devoting two, three, four paragraphs to the importance of video in expressing and saving memories, and they’re not wrong. Video and film are powerful media for artistic expression nowadays, and there’s a certain sense in which motion pictures are a sort of currency of the mind. We live in a visual world; we expect things to move. We live our lives in motion, and we think in motion, and it follows that we remember things in motion. Videography, in this sense, preserves the motion in the memory.
This is of course not to disparage photography in any way. Photography is its own unique and beautiful art, and the ability to capture instants with the click of a shutter and the flash of a bulb is a talent in and of itself. The difference, though, is that while a picture can tell a story, video tells the whole story.
We at Silk & Silver Productions, LLC are trained storytellers. Together we have more than 17 years’ experience in the performing and visual arts, and have degrees in William & Mary’s Literary and Cultural Studies program—the program that encompasses Film Studies. You write your life as you live it, which leaves us with a script to shoot and, ultimately, footage to edit into the full story of your wedding, bar mitzvah, graduation, or other event. And we’ll tell it the best way we know how.
